Sheep of meat and wool breed Tashlinskaya: description, origin, breeding
Traditionally, sheep breeding has successfully developed in Russia, with only one main goal - to provide the population of the country and other countries of the world with a quality fleece and warm skin. However, in connection with modern needs, there was an urgent need to retrain farm sheep breeding from coarse-haired breeds to meat-wool. The necessary gene pool was absent and had to attract foreign. So there was a new meat and wool Tashlinsky breed of sheep.
Origin, breed history
The Tashlinsky breed of sheep was obtained by crossing Caucasian ewes with sheep Texel and Ostfries. One of the main criteria when choosing a male was the offspring development rate, which was fully satisfied by the Texel breed, by 8 months the offspring were gaining good weight and muscle mass, as well as a high percentage of meat.
Important! Tashlinsky sheep at the first lambing bring 1 lamb, but later - 2, in rare cases - 3 cubs.
The breed was approved and registered in 2008 as Tashlinskaya, in honor of the name of the Tashla River, flowing in close proximity to the enterprise engaged in the breeding of the species. In February 2010, it was included in the State Register of selection achievements approved for use. The breed has become popular in all regions of the country.
Characteristic and appearance
The breed fully met the expectations of breeders, as it had a large physique, was resistant to the local climate and unpretentious to food. Animal hornless with pronounced meat forms. Tashlinsky sheep are famous for excellent meat qualities, the taste of their meat resembles marble veal, this is due to the distribution of fat reserve between the muscles. The breed is famous for its high quality wool, milk production and trouble-free reproduction.

Adult sheep are very massive: rams - up to 100 kg, uterus - up to 60 kg. Young growth with rapid growth, per day a young individual gains up to 220 g of weight. By the age of 3 months, the strongest representatives of the species gain up to 42 kg, and gain 400 g per day.
Color and color
The color of the Tashlinsky breed is white, crossbred type wool, half-fine, staple-braid structure. The thickness of the cover is average. Fibers up to 12 cm long. Large twists: for rams - 3.13 pcs., For bright ones - 3.08 pcs. by 1 cm. The breaking load of wool in sheep is higher than in bright colors: sheep - 9.53 cN / tex. and bright - 8.28 cN / tex. The color of the breed is its advantage, since the white product is easily painted in any other color.
An excellent indicator of quality is the wool of this breed.
The fineness values are as follows:
- ram - 31.5 microns (48 quality);
- bright - 27.4 microns (56 quality);
- uterus - 28.1 microns (56 quality);
- year-old ram - 29.4 microns (50 quality).
Features of body building
The body is barrel-shaped with well-defined muscles. The head is compact, the profile is straight. The ears are set wide, the neck is powerful. The loin is very wide, strong straight back, short tail without fatty deposits.
Uterine productivity is very high, young growth has a good growth rate, up to 170 lambs per 100 sheep. The first lambing has an indicator slightly lower - up to 130%. The safety of lambs is 91%.
Tashlinsky sheep respond well to fattening, at 5 months at the time of slaughter the carcass weight is 16 kg, the slaughter yield is 44%. With each subsequent month, gaining in weight of 3.5 kg.Already at 9 months of age, the meat content in the carcass will be 80% and bone 20%. The main feature of the Tashlinsky breed is the low level of internal fat, this is due to its distribution among the muscle space.This fact allows you to feed the lambs for a long age without loss of slaughter qualities, and the taste of meat becomes juicy and is an analogue of marbled beef. The smell and taste characteristic of lamb are completely absent.
Sheared wool from sheep - up to 7 kg, from queens - up to 4.5 kg. After brushing and washing, 64% of the weight of the hair cut is retained. Shearing must be done twice a year. The quality of the coat varies depending on the age and gender of the animal. Sheep wool is used in everyday life more often than the wool of other animals.
Did you know? Modern scientists have not been able to create a synthetic analogue of sheep wool, which would not be inferior to it in quality and heat preservation.
Advantages and disadvantages
Due to their high productive and hereditary qualities, sheep of the Tashlinsky breed are in demand in many regions of Russia.
- Among the advantages:
- high rates of meat and wool productivity;
- good fertility;
- a pleasant taste of meat (lack of copious fat layer, specific smell);
- the ability to easily adapt to the climate of different regions.
Significant shortcomings of the Tashlinsky breed were not identified.
Maintenance and care rules
The recommended habitat of the Tashlinsky breed are areas with a moderately humid climate, such as the Stavropol Territory, the North Caucasus, and the Central Strip of Russia. Sheep farmers in cold regions should take care of warming the shepherd, as the animal will have to spend energy from food on its heating, which will entail a decrease in weight gain.Therefore, during the period of cold weather, it is necessary to increase the rate of hay. In winter, it is necessary to provide a deep bedding, which will naturally be heated from below. In the summer I laid it down, do not clean, just update the top layer.
Important! Juicy foods should be given carefully, as they can ferment in the stomach, causing tympanum.
The basis of food is roughage, respond well to fattening. The main components of the feed are standard, as well as for any other breeds. These are salts, chalk, concentrates, vitamin premixes, mineral and succulent feeds. The breed is so unpretentious that a set of muscle mass will be optimal even when eating pasture.
The Tashlinsky breed is unstable, therefore, Texel blood is still poured to it for a greater manifestation of the breed. Even the size of the head and the profile of the sheep still look different: either straight from Texel, or with a hump from Caucasian ancestors. Tashlins females are characterized by a very high fertility rate, due to good milk production, young animals have an excellent level of vitality.Females are endowed with good maternal qualities, so additional support during lambing is not always necessary. Their milk is nutritious, with a protein content of 5%, and fat - 7-8%.
Diseases, their prevention
The main diseases of sheep fall into categories such as non-infectious and infectious. The consequences of infection: a clear decrease in growth and productivity. Tashlinsky breed has good immunity and is resistant to viruses. However, do not ignore the precautionary measures and preventive measures. The non-contagious group of diseases most often includes problems associated with digestion, hoof disease and cough.
Infectious diseases (viruses, bacteria, fungi) are more dangerous, since the radius of the lesion will be a whole herd. Prevention is to maintain normal conditions, such as hygiene and cleanliness, in the pasture, in the shepherd, and in the animals themselves.Premises in the autumn must be treated with disinfectants, walls must be painted with limestone added.
In the summer, monitor the defeat of sheep with blood-sucking parasites and flies. A precaution is frequent bathing and haircuts. To prevent viral infections, vaccination is necessary. To minimize digestive problems, rotten and moldy foods should be avoided.
Sheep breeding projects pay back very quickly. The Tashli breed is economically rational and beneficial for farmers. High-quality wool and meat of excellent taste create healthy competition in the market for meat and wool products; the breed is very popular in both large and small farms.
Did you know? Tashlinsky sheep cannot live alone, in the absence of a herd they start to have an alarming depression, which subsequently drives the sheep crazy in the literal sense of the word.
Estimated cost and where to buy
Sheep are sold live weight, the price ranges from 110 rubles / kg to 170 rubles / kg. Most often they sell whole flocks, the minimum batch, depending on the supplier, ranges from 100 to 300 goals. When buying one or more heads, the price per 1 kg will almost double. The sale of sheep is carried out on specialized websites of agricultural advertisements, where data from private farmers and large farms are concentrated, with a description of the specific features of the sheep sold.The calm nature and high-quality indicators of breeding of the Tashlinsky breed indicate the correctness and feasibility of breeding this breed. The development of sheep breeding is aimed at improving the quality and implementation of young mutton in its first year of birth. Throughout the world, this direction is most developed and in demand.
The Tashlinsky people are not picky about food - they sweep everything, any grass (even thorns) and grain waste (including sunflower waste). My winter diet has this: hay (alfalfa, sainfoin, meadow), barley + grain waste, cake once a week, salt-lick and water in constant access. In summer, the grain is minimized (only so that they can go home from the pasture), the grass they choose, the same salt-lick and water. And yet, the Tashlins are very calm lambs: they do not scream, they do not scatter when grazing, they know their owner.
